Why travel with a local guide instead of an agency?
Because you deal with one person from the first message to the last day of the trip. There is no booking engine, no sales team, and no handover to a subcontractor you have never met — you tell me what you want to see, I tell you honestly what is realistic in your dates, and the program we agree on is the one I lead myself.
In Kyrgyzstan that matters more than in most countries. The good weeks depend on things no brochure tracks: which jailoo the shepherds have moved up to this month, which pass is still holding snow, which stretch of road washed out last week. I grew up with these rhythms, and I plan around them — an office in another country cannot.
What does "direct" mean for price and flexibility?
Working without a middleman sits between the two ends of the market here: community-tourism networks at the budget end, and international brands selling multi-week packages at the premium end. I don't publish fixed package prices because I don't sell fixed packages — each trip is priced from the actual program, group size and season. What you skip is the agency margin between you and the person doing the work, and what you gain is the freedom to change the plan on the trail when the weather — or your legs — say so.
What tours do we run?
Five kinds of trips, all private and tailored on inquiry: eco tours, trekking, horse trekking, winter ski touring and cultural Silk Road journeys. Horse trekking is the signature — it is how this country has been crossed for centuries, and it is the trip I suggest when someone asks for just one.
Eco tours
Lakes, valleys and summer-pasture life — low-impact trips to places like Sary-Chelek and the jailoo above Issyk-Kul.
Adventure trekking
Guided treks in the Tien Shan from Karakol — Ala-Kul, Ak-Suu, Jyrgalan — with the logistics carried for you.
Horse trekking
The signature trip: multi-day rides to Song-Kul and along the south shore, on horses I know and trust.
Winter / ski touring
Ski touring and freeride around Karakol and Jyrgalan when the valleys fill with snow, December to March.
Cultural & Silk Road

Where do we travel in Kyrgyzstan?
Most trips start from Issyk-Kul, the lake I grew up on, and reach into the Tien Shan ranges around it. Four places worth knowing first:
Issyk-Kul
The lake I grew up on — a warm-water lake that never freezes, with two very different shores.
Song-Kul
Yurt camps on a high summer pasture at 3,016 m, reachable roughly June to September.
Altyn Arashan
Hot springs at the end of the Ala-Kul trek, over a pass just under 3,900 m.
Karakol
The east-shore base town for trekking and skiing, with Dungan food and the Sunday animal market.
When is the best time to come?
It depends entirely on what you want to do — Kyrgyzstan is a year-round country, but each activity has its own window, and the honest answer changes month by month:
