Most journeys begin at the lake, then move toward alpine valleys, high pasture, yurt camps and the trailheads around Karakol.

Trekking	July—September Lower routes may open from mid-June.
Horse trekking & yurts	June—September When high pastures and camps are accessible.
Ski touring & freeride	December—March Snow conditions decide the final route.
